Title: 13 Caprices

Composer: Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840)

Arranger: Kristian Oma Rønnes

Instrumentation: Bassoon
Publisher: Emerson Edition Ltd. (England)

Published: 2016

Price: £10.75

Program note: These arrangements are of an extremely virtuosic character, not only when it comes to general technique, but also for developing the extremely high range (Bb'', 7th above the Le Sace C!) and low range (contra A). The 13 Caprices are the following numbers from the total 24: Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 23 & 24.
"It’s about time bassoonists dare to face perhaps the most famous instrumental virtuoso of all time; Niccolò Paganini.”
– Kristian Oma Rønnes

Title: La Campanella

Composer: Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840) / Franz Liszt (1811-1886)

Arranger: Kristian Oma Rønnes

Instrumentation: Bassoon
Publisher: Emerson Edition Ltd. (England)

Published: 2016

Price: £6.25

Program note: La Campanella (Italian for ‘the little bell’) was originally composed by the Italian composer and violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini, and the theme first appears in the third movement of his Violin Concerto No.2, Op.7. Several other great composers have also made arrangements and written variations on this melody, including Schumann, Brahms, Liszt and Rachmaninov. However, none of them wrote a version for bassoon. Here is the first bassoon version.

"One doesn’t always need to venture into atonality to break boundaries." – Kristian Oma Rønnes

Title: Winterreise

Composer: Franz Schubert (1797-1828)

Arranger: Kristian Oma Rønnes

Text: Wilhelm Müller (1794-1827)

Instrumentation: Bassoon & Piano
Publisher: TrevCo Music Publishing (USA)

Published: 2015

Price Book 1: $18.00

Price Book 2: $18.00

Program note: "This trascription by Kristian Oma Rønnes of Franz Schubert's "Winterreise" should be considered not only as an arrangement of the lyrical songs (as this song cycle indeed is); but also as "rethorical studies" for the bassoonist." The text is what creates the slurs, one should interpret these songs as a singer would, in other words: "a word that lasts over several notes is therefore to be played legato, as an indication of the melismatic kind of singing a vocalist would do. At times also let the text decide when to breathe and phrase, even if you could go longer on the same breath."

Info: This edition for Bassoon of Schubert's song-cycle "Winterreise" includes ONLY the bassoon part, the part can be used with any standard piano accompainment. It's published in two volumes: Book 1 is the first part (Song Nos. 1-12), and Book 2 is the second part (Song Nos. 13-24). Both volumes includes the original German text and English translation.

Title: Romance

Composer: Johan Svendsen (1840-1911)

Arranger: Kristian Oma Rønnes

Instrumentation: Bassoon & Orchestra
Publisher: TrevCo Music Publishing (USA)

Published: 2017

Price: $8

Publisher's note: "This is the BASSOON SOLO PART ONLY for Svendsen's Op.26 Romance in G Major (orig. for violin). It can be used with either existing piano reductions or orchestra sets (violin). Nice (probably Svendsen's best-known work) late Romantic solo."

Title: Serenade, Op. 123

Composer: Filip Sande (1970-)

Arranger: Kristian Oma Rønnes

Instrumentation: Bassoon & Piano
Publisher: TrevCo Music Publishing (USA)

Published: 2018

Price: $12

Publisher's note: "Filip Sande (born 1970) is a noted Scandinavian composer from Trondheim, Norway. The Serenade was originally for cello and piano but, with the composer’s permission, it has been arranged for bassoon and piano by Kristian Oma Ronnes. It is not technically challenging but does require the full extended range of the instrument. TMP is honored to publish this fine addition to the repertoire, with thanks to both the composer and arranger for making it possible."
